The Black Ice
has anyone read “The Black Ice” by Michael Connelly? - i’m thinking about ordering it and wanted to hear some opinions :)
The Black Ice is the second in Michael Connellys’ Harry Bosch series. If you’re planning on reading the series, it’s probably best to start with the first book - The Black Echo.
i assume you’ve already read both: is there a connection between these books, something i wouldn’t understand without having read the first one?
Yep - I’ve read all of Michaels’ books including a few that had short print runs, and were never re-printed. As for a connection between The Black Ice & The Black Echo - If you haven’t read any of his books before, and have that one to hand - then it’s absolutely fine to read that one first. The Black Echo sets the “Framework” for the character, detailing some significant events in Harrys’ past, outlining the early parts of his career, as well as introducing some significant characters.
That said - they’re only significant if you read the other twenty-odd books in the series :) With the exception of three / four books, you can read most of them “out of sequence” - they’ll make sense, however there’ll be throw-away lines that’ll only make sense if you read the books in sequence.
tl;dr: If you’ve only got The Black Ice to hand, then by all means, start with that one. If you like that one though, I’d recommend starting from the first book, so as not to have any further books in the series spoilt.
