Can I just say....
Gaius Balter as Vice President?!? Those drugs really do have crazy-ass side effects!
[Expect more BSG posts, over the next few weeks; I’m finally “dialed into” the series. And it’s fracking amazing.]
Still yet to find out how the XO ends up with an eye-patch, hopefully the answer arrives soon.
Speaking of Galacticas’ resident piss-head… Man his wife is a...

The Black Ice

dammitsully:
has anyone read “The Black Ice” by Michael Connelly? - i’m thinking about ordering it and wanted to hear some opinions :)
The Black Ice is the second in Michael Connellys’ Harry Bosch series. If you’re planning on reading the series, it’s probably best to start with the first book - The Black Echo.
i assume you’ve already read both: is there a...

Justin Biebers' "Baby" video was uploaded to...
Justin Biebers’ “Baby” was uploaded to Youtube two years ago today. In that time it’s amassed 706,634,364 [as of 1:40pm] views.
That’s 706,634,364 views in 730 days…
Or approx. 29,443,098 views, each month…
Or approx. 6,794,561 views per week…
Or approx. 967,992 views per day.
And if people think that’s terrifying…
Those numbers, in...
David Haye & Dereck Chisora
Should both be stripped of their licences to box in this country. Chisora prances around wearing a union jack around his face? He’s a fucking disgrace to this country.
Someone please persuade Lennox Lewis to come out of retirement, so he can teach the pair of them a lesson.
It gets worse...
I’m not into e-readers. I’ve tried a few out, but to me, while it’d be awesome to be able to carry hundreds of books in one small form, I just don’t like ‘em - I don’t like the screens, and while they’re thin, they’re ultimately not as flexible as a book, So that’s the e-reader part done for…
In my defence, that was typed up a while...

[On the topic of the just announced original iPad]
Now the details are out, I’m the first to admit, the price aint all that bad. For Apple… And the fact it’s not tied to an obscene cell contract like the iPhone is welcome. However, I’m still not sure what I’d use it for. I certainly wouldn’t use it as an e-Reader, as I honestly can’t see me ever converting...
Apparently,
the way I write, makes it difficult for some people to understand what I’m saying, as my grammer and syntax are a little iffy.
My most humble apologies. I shall now slave away for the next forty years, so that I can construct a timey-wimey device, go back to when I was younger, and either kill the younger version of myself, or more realistically bribe the speech therapists who actually gave...

Galileo (2.9)
Bartlet: "Good morning! I’m speaking to you live from the West Wing of the White House. Today we have a very unique opportunity to take part live in an extremely historic event which -" Whoa, boy.
Sam: How you doing, Mr. President?
Bartlet: Who wrote this intro?
Scott Tate: I did, sir. I’m Scott Tate from NASA Public Affairs.
Bartlet: Scott, unique means “one of a kind.” Something can’t be very unique, nor can it be extremely historic.
CJ: While we’re at it, do we have to use the word “live” twice in the first two sentences like we just cracked the technology?
Tate: Look -
CJ: We’re also broadcasting in living color, right?
Bartlet: Sam?
Sam: Yeah.
Bartlet: He’s gonna make some changes.
Tate: You’re going to clear them with me?
Sam: I doubt it. Write this: “Good morning. Eleven months ago a 1200 pound spacecraft blasted off from Cape Canaveral, Florida. Eighteen hours ago…” Is it eighteen hours ago? We’re on the air at noon eastern.
CJ: Yeah.
Sam: “Eighteen hours ago it landed on the planet Mars. You, me, and 60,000 of your fellow students across the country along with astroscientists and engineers from the Jet Propulsion Lab in Southern California, NASA in Houston, and right here at the White House, are going to be the first to see what it sees, and to chronicle the extraordinary voyage of an unmanned ship called Galileo V.”
Bartlet: He said it right.

TIL: There's a "Colemak" keyboard layout. And it...
So I was browsing reddit - specifically /r/programming, and noticed a thread asking how people typed. I’m a specific keyboard, touch-typist. By that I mean, when using my regular keyboard [Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000]. On regular QWERTY keyboards, I tend to be an “occasional looker” - I look down at the keyboard roughly every other sentence.
So there I was,...

Speaking of Spooks...
Hugh Laurie really is on jolly good form old chum, as an MI6 “operative”. He appears towards the end of Series 1 - and if memory serves [bearing in mind, it’s been nigh on ten years since Spooks started] I think he pops up around half way through Series 2 as well.
That Laurie is in the series was no surprise. I had no idea Benedict Cumberbatch appeared in the show, however.
As...

Ironically - given the bullshit from yesterday, I’m currently putting the finishing touches to my “Yes they’re awesome - but here are five reasons why they might not be around for much longer” post / article, on the threats to public libraries.
I’m half-tempted to scrap it, and say they should all be closed, for not encouraging enough people to borrow his books.

[UK]: Today is National Libraries Day!
thekindlemonologues:
It’s National Libraries Day, here in the land of Sherlock Snow!. Assuming you’re not snowed in, why not head down to your local library, and go pay ‘em a visit?
Most libraries should have a page on their respective websites, outlining any and all events that they’re running today - you could always have a look there first, to see if anything catches your attention.
If not,...

I remember the great 24hr server outage
I remember when they introduced highlights, and 5 mins later people found out how to do it for free.

Right Tumblr...
Seeing as how it took around 30 seconds to figure out how to add the highlights feature to posts, for free…
…Hows about a feature that’ll allow you to ignore ‘em, as they’re already starting to get on my tits. I can just imagine the potential to exploit it in some of the tags I browse.

Don’t like the features tumblr has? Fuck off and build your own blogging platform.

Hmm... Highlight "feature"
OK. Any chance tumblr will use that money to combat the “Get it now - Take Action” spam accounts, whose spam has been infecting the tags for the last months?

I can’t help but think something went wrong, when my brain was being formed.
Who else in their right mind, knows that not applying a 30% reduction on a pack of four rolls represents a “net loss” of 0.5%?
On the other hand, the next time one of my relatives tells me they can’t afford to buy healthy food, I can just throw ‘em a url.
